Strong Arms for Kids


I had a great two weeks back at home visiting with my friends and family.  I told myself that I was going to give myself a bit of a rest from training while I was home.  That was why I was training so hard the month of August (well that, and that I had nothing better to do).  But turns out, that one really can be addicted to exercising.  And I am one of the lucky, or unfortunate (the jury is still out on that one), who is addicted to exercising.  So after giving myself one day to recover from jetlag, I was out running 7-8 miles a day.  On one of my runs,  I was feeling great and thinking about how I really am addicted to exercising, and how cool I feel because of my addiction.  Then the very next day, I go out for another run, and the whole time my foot is hurting, it feels like my shoe is too tight, I loosen it, but my foot still hurts for the entire run.  I didn't think too much of it, thinking that it would feel better the next day.  That was almost two weeks ago and I haven't been running since because the pain has not gone away.  After it happened, I had to force myself not to do too much exercise.  I still did some swimming and cycling, but my foot was just not getting any better.  Since not doing much exercise, I have noticed a huge difference in my attitude.  I have been so grumpy and really sad and, of course, getting worried about the triathlon, that my foot won't get better.  But,  I have been trying to be responsible and take care of myself, something I normally am not very good at doing.  I did go cycling once since I have been back on my island (it was so much fun, I can't believe how much I missed it), but my foot really hurt the next day.  So yesterday I actually went to the doctor (something I would have never done if it wasn't for this triathlon).  He took an x-ray and said it was just a sprain and that I should just rest.  Little does heknow, how NOT simple that is for me.  But, luckily, a category 3/4 hurricane has been sent to Ishigaki, so I am forced by extreme weather to stay indoors and rest.  Its a biggie and looks like it may be here until Monday.  So that gives me four solid days of rest and nothing else.  I will cry if my foot isn't better by next week.
